Inspiration Site & App

Project Overview: Inspo Depot is a tool to help creatives find inspiration through various means. Articles, prompts, and postings will help give inspiration to other creators. Creators rely on various different tools and services to create and come up with ideas. The goal is to design a service that will create a community of artist to collaborate, inspire and to push more creativity.

User Research Summary: I conducted interviews to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was creatives like, writers, film makers, and artists. Research conducted was interviews asking where and how they find inspiration and motivation to create. Other issues was finding community with others who like to create as well and bouncing off ideas with others who also are not in a professional setting.

User Personas

Jun

Jun is an aspiring artist/singer who needs more sources to find inspiration because he is new to the drawing world and would like to find ways to stay motivated.

Aj

Aj  is an aspiring actor, photographer and writer  who needs a community to keep his creative juices flowing with other creatives. Due to being out of school and depending on occupation, he is not around others who are creative as well that can understand him and give him motivation to create.

Ideation Sketches

Initial Wireframes

After the Initial wireframes, a usability study was conducted. It was an unmoderated study between 4 participants for about 30-60 minutes. From the study, 3 key findings were acknowledged:

Color

The experience needed a different color scheme to help in boosting creativity.

Community

Users stated that a community of followers of some sorts would be nice to give opportunities to collab and help other artists create.

Commute

To help with navigating through the service more efficiently, more call to action buttons should be included.

Changes Made:

The colors are no longer extremely bright and vibrant, but now is cool and calm with warm undertones. icons were changed to give specific actions to the user for ease of navigation. And lastly the experience comes with a community/social media presence. Users can have a following, and have other artists share inspiration, articles and messages with one another.

Final Solution

Challenges & Takeaways

Challenges were mostly about understanding the value of iconography and call to action buttons. They in a sense control how effective navigating through an app or website can be. Assuming how a user would move throughout an app does not help in creating a user experience that is easy for navigation. A takeaway would be changing the design in a way to fit different hardware, such as Desktop, Laptop, Tablet, and Mobile Phone. Each device has a different functions therefore used and viewed differently, so each iteration has to be intentional on how they want the users to use their service/product.
